Singapore Published Security Requirements for Residential Gateways
2020-10-23
On October 12, 2020, Singapore Regulator-Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) published the security requirements for residential gateway (commonly known as home router) sold in Singapore including unique login credentials and the default automatic download of security patches.
The finalized Technical Specification for Residential Gateway will come into effect on April 13, 2021. Home routers previously approved by IMDA can continue to be sold until October 12, 2021.
However, Wi-Fi home routers that meet IMDA's specifications are also required to comply with the Level 1 of the “Cybersecurity Labelling Scheme”, which was recently introduced by the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore. And home routers as well as smart home hubs that are assessed as safe and compliant need to be marked with these labels.
