EU Approves a New Approach for Strengthening the European Single Market
The European Parliament approved the reform regarding market control surveillance in the European Single Market. However, this reform will cover only types of products that are under the EU sector-specific rules such as household appliances, medical devices, etc. Members of European Parliament voted for:
- Better trace products. It means that every company that sells products under the EU sector-specific rules via online shops directly to consumers in the EU single market, will need to have a contact person in the EU who can be responsible for selling nonconforming products within the EU safety regulations.
- Control strengthening over the sold online products.
- EU-wide network establishing. Such service will help to coordinate activities by the national market surveillance authorities and to take part in joint testing through a network of EU-designated laboratories.
Thus, this reform will allow consumers to be sure that products they are buying via online shops are safe and meet relevant EU regulations’ and standards’ requirements.
