EU Finalized the Format of Energy Efficiency Labels for 6 Categories of Products
On March 11, 2019, The European Commission approved modification of the energy efficiency label for 6 categories of products.
5 categories are household appliances:
Dishwashers
Washing machines and washer-dryers
Refrigerators including wine storage fridges
Lamps
Electronic displays including televisions monitors and digital signage displays
The 6th category is so-called “commercial fridges”.
It is planned that the consumer could see these new labels in March 2021.
The labels will have a QR code to help consumers get additional information about the device using their smartphones.
The energy labels will display not only electricity consumption but other information and pictograms according to the category of the product. It is supposed to help customers make a better choice.
It is also necessary to mention that from 2021 the scale of the energy class is going to be simplified. Thus, they are planning to remove ‘A+’, ‘A++’and ‘A+++’ classes and leave only A to G scale, where “A” will be for the most energy-efficient product and “G” for the least energy-efficient one.
