Singapore Establishes Minimum Energy Performance Standards and Mandatory Energy Labeling for Lamps
On October 26, 2018, the Singapore National Environment Agency (NEA) has announced four enhancements to Mandatory Energy Labeling (MELS) and Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS).
The four enhancements, which will take effect from November 1, 2019, are:
Raising of MEPS for incandescent bulbs.
Introduction of MEPS for fluorescent lamp ballasts
Introduction of MELS for following lamps types: CFLni, LFL and LED
Mandatory display of Energy Label in publicity materials
The regulated products must contain an energy label on the lamp packaging before they can be supplied in Singapore.
Importers of regulated products that are covered under these requirements must register themselves and their products with the NEA.
It should be considered that lighting suppliers, whose products fall under effect of the enhancements of MEPS and MELS, will have a 1-year period (from November 2019 to October 2020) to clear existing stocks.
