Botswana - BOCRA Issues New Guidelines on Type Approval Verification

On December 2020, the Botswana Communications Regulatory Authority (BOCRA) has issued New Guidelines on Type Approval Verification of SIM enabled devices. These Guidelines shall be implemented and come into effect on the 1st January 2022.
The interested parties involved in the SIM-enabled device supply chain (suppliers, retailers, resellers, local representatives and manufacturers), after completing the type approval registration process, must use the following information to complete the Type Approval Verification process through the BOCRA online platform:
1.Device Make and Model
2.IMEI/TAC number
3.BOCRA Type Approval Number
Upon successful completion of the verification process, the system shall issue a Verification Certificate which will give full details of each device unit.
Once a new device connects to the mobile network in Botswana, the IMEI number will be captured by the Mobile Network Operators Equipment Identity Register and verified. Only devices which have successfully been verified are given access to the network.
