Thailand Recalls 2600 MHz Band

On March 5, 2019, the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) of Thailand approved the recall of the unused 2600MHz band. It will then be prepared for the 5G auction aimed at building infrastructure for the wireless technology.

The decision is based upon the Frequency Allocation Act (NBTC Law) which stipulates that the regulator must recall spectrum slots that are mainly held by state agencies and used inefficiently.

The NBTC required to return 190MHz of unused bandwidth, including 154MHz now held by MCOT and 12MHz held by the Royal Thai Army.

Apart from 2600MHz, the NBTC plans to recall several other ranges for future auction: 470MHz, 1500MHz, 3400-3800MHz and 26-28GHz.
