ACMA Consults AFC for 6 GHz Wi-Fi
On November 5, 2025, the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has opened a public discussion on implementing an Automatic Frequency Coordination (AFC) system for Wi-Fi 6 GHz band.
This move aims to unlock higher Wi-Fi performance by permitting power levels greater than currently allowed. Key points are as below:
· Licensing and Authorisation: Potential frameworks for the system.
· Technical Considerations: System operation and engineering.
· Impact Assessment: Benefits and risks for both users and existing services (incumbents).
· Planning: Geographic and frequency arrangements.
The public may submit their opinion to the ACMA by January 30, 2026.
