India Proposes 77-81 GHz for Short-Range Automotive Radar Systems

On November 25, 2025, the Ministry of Communications of India released a significant draft notification for public consultation, G.S.R. 866(E), aimed at expanding the available spectrum for high-tech automotive safety systems. This proposal regulates the 77 to 81 GHz frequency band specifically for short-range automotive radar systems.

This move complements the existing regulation G.S.R. 699(E), which governs the adjacent 76 to 77 GHz band for "very low power" short-range radar systems.

The public consultation period will end by December 25, 2025.
