India Announces Transition for 6 GHz Band Equipment Certification
On March 6, 2026, the WPC of India issued a public notice regarding equipment capable of operating in the newly delicensed 5925-6425 MHz band. Manufacturers holding ETAs for models technically capable of 6 GHz operation, but currently certified only for 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz, must complete a mandatory transition within 30 days.
1. The Two-Step Transition Process:
Technical Cancellation: Applicants must apply to cancel their existing ETA certificates.
Fresh Certification: A new ETA must be obtained that explicitly covers all applicable bands, including the 5925-6425 MHz range.
2. Key Compliance Rules:
Existing ETAs remain valid only for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz operation during the 30-day transition period. However, if the transition is not completed within 30 days, the ETA's validity will automatically expire. Once this period has passed, the equipment will no longer have valid approval to operate in any band, including the previously approved 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz ranges.
