BIS Publishes the Draft Guideline for Transitioning to IS/IEC 62368-1:2023
On March 9, 2026, BIS issued a draft guideline establishing the following framework for migrating electronic and IT products to the new safety standard IS/IEC 62368-1:2023.
1. Mandatory Date and Transition Period:
The transition from the older standards "IS 13252 (Part 1):2010" and "IS 616:2017" to the new standard is permitted until November 1, 2028.
After this mandatory date, the older standards will be officially withdrawn, and certificates that have not successfully migrated will become invalid.
2. Test Requirement:
Existing certificates must ensure compliance by submitting a complete test report issued by a BIS-recognized laboratory for all lead models currently registered under the certificate.
Currently, the definition of "lead model" is not yet provided in this draft regulation.
