BIS Releases Migration Guidelines for IS/IEC 62368-1:2023
On July 22, 2026, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) issued FAQs regarding the transition from older safety standards (IS 13252 and IS 616) to the updated IS/IEC 62368-1:2023. A summary of the key guidelines is provided below:
1. The deadline for migrating to the new standard is November 1, 2028.
2. Existing Registration Numbers (R-numbers) will remain unchanged after a successful migration.
3. To complete the migration, test reports under the new standard for all lead models from recognized laboratories are required.
4. Critical components must also meet the 2023 standard; items complying only with older standards will no longer be accepted in the Critical Component List (CCL).
5. Failure to complete the transition by the 2028 deadline may result in the cancellation of licenses or the removal of models from the registered scope.
