Australia ACMA Issued Four Amendment Instruments
On March 17, 2023, The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) published four amendment instruments.
1. the Radiocommunications Equipment (General) Amendment Rules 2023 (No. 1)
2. the Communications Legislation (Protected Symbols) Determination 2023
3. the Telecommunications Legislation Amendment (Significant Event) Instrument (No. 1) 2023
4. the Radiocommunications (Low Interference Potential Devices) Class Licence Variation 2023 (No. 1)
The most important is the revision of “Radiocommunications Equipment (General) Rules 2021”. That is, the instrument “the Radiocommunications Equipment (General) Amendment Rules 2023 (No. 1)”
The key points of the instrument is as follow:
1. repeals 13 of the old general standards, and the Radiocommunications Labelling Notice, and includes their content into the General Equipment Rules and, in doing so, adopts five additional international documents.
2. repeals the redundant Radiocommunications (121.5 MHz and 243.0 MHz Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons) Standard 2014 (the 121.5 MHz and 243.0 MHz EPIRB Standard);
3. amends the General Equipment Rules to replace the interim International Electrotechnical Commission (the IEC) EME test method standard IEC TR 63170:2018 with IEC/IEEE 63195-1:2022 and IEC/IEEE 63195-2:2022, which allow suppliers to use both computational and physical measurements to determine compliance with the EME requirements in the General Equipment Rules.
4. amends the General Equipment Rules to include a savings and transitional provision that incorporates the 13 old general standards (including “the Radiocommunications (Short Range Devices) Standard 2014”) whose content is now included in the General Equipment Rules, as in force immediately.
