New Approval Procedure for Fixed Wired and Wireless Devices in Somalia

The National Communications Authority of Somalia (NCA) published a new type approval guidelines procedure for R&TTE. The type approval is defined as a process by which an R&TTE is certified by the NCA to be used in Somalia. It involves verification of an R&TTE to make sure it complies with the applicable international standards and essential requirements.

The main goal of the type approval is to confirm that any R&TTE which is used in Somalia complies with the applicable technical standards recognized by the NCA in order to:

1. Ensure environmental safety and health of users of the R&TTE;

2. Avoid interference to other radio communications networks;

3. Prevent damage or interruption to interconnected networks;

4. Guarantee effective use of the frequency spectrum;

5. Facilitate the availability of quality equipment to consumers and operators;

6. Promote interoperability between communications networks;

The NCA only processes applications of R&TTE which has already obtained the Type Approval Certificate from a National Regulatory Authority (NRA) recognized by the NCA and shows that the R&TTE complies with the required technical standards.

Currently, the following list of NRAs are recognized by NCA and the Type Approval Certificates granted by these NRAs can be used as the Certificate of Compliance:

1. All NRAs from EU Member states;

2.Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), UAE;

3. Communications Authority (CA), Kenya;

4. Information and Communications Technology Authority, Turkey.
