MSIT of Korea Mandates USB Type-C Requirement

On November 5, 2025, the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) of Korea issued Notice No. 2025-56, establishing technical standards that require applicable devices to be equipped with a USB Type-C receptacle connector.

This mandate applies to mobile and smart devices that use wired charging, or both wired charging and data transmission simultaneously. The 13 categories of affected equipment include:

1.     Mobile phones

2.     Tablets

3.     Laptops

4.     Digital cameras

5.     Headphones

6.     Headsets

7.     Earphones

8.     Portable video game consoles

9.     Portable speakers

10.  E-book readers

11.  Keyboards

12.  Mice

13.  Portable navigation devices

The technical standard will take effect one year after its promulgation date, on November 5, 2026. After this date, all listed equipment must be equipped with a USB Type-C receptacle connector.
