Kenya CA Issues Technical Specifications for Mobile Cellular Devices
On March 24, 2026, the Communications Authority (CA) of Kenya published the ‘Technical Specifications for Mobile Cellular Devices’, defining the minimum technical requirements for mobile cellular devices that utilize mobile network technologies. The specifications cover input power, safety requirements, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), radiated power, frequency utilization and environmental considerations.
On March 26, CA further issued a ‘Clarification on Public Notice on Technical Specifications for Mobile Cellular Devices’. The clarification requires that, effective March 24, 2026, all mobile cellular devices seeking type approval must use USB Type-C as the charging interface, and that the charging cable must also be detachable from the power adapter.
CA also clarified that the shipment, importation, sale, and use of mobile cellular devices that have obtained type approval prior to March 24, 2026, remain unaffected by the new requirements.
